Grassroots Tour of Jerusalem
Would you like to be involved on a grassroots level with what is going on in Jerusalem?
Come get to know the many grassroots organizations and activists- Israelis, Palestinians and internationals working together to find innovative solutions to “unsolvable problems”!
Take a tour of Jerusalem- East and West; find out what is really going on for yourself!
No one really knows Jerusalem until they have visited all sides of it!
Leave the abstract politics behind; become involved in everyday reality in Jerusalem, ALL of Jerusalem.
Our meeting point will be in front of Jerusalem hotel at 9:00, we will see sections of the Separation WALL, and Ma’ale Adumum, one of the largest settlements in the West Bank.
Then we enter the area of Azariya, on the Palestinian side of the Separation Barrier. You’ll see daily life and historical sites in East Sawahreh, Abu Dis, There will be an opportunity to see the unfinished Palestinian Parliament building, Lazarus Tomb, the church at Bethany, and the Mount of Olives terminal – the only legal way for local Palestinians with permits to enter Jerusalem.
The tour includes an overview of the situation in Azariyah and Abu Dis, including discussion of the new Palestinian roads being built by Israel that will foreclose the possibility of efficient transport or territorial contiguity between the Southern and Northern West Bank. You will visit the ‘Container Checkpoint’, the only ‘legal’ passage for Palestinians between the North and South West bank.
There will be a chance to see the Jahalin School and hear their story on how they lost most of their land to Ma’ale Adimum and today live a precarious existence in ramshackle ‘unrecognized’ villages constantly under threat of home demolitions and renewed evictions by the Israeli authorities.
This is one of many tours we can take. In all of them we wish to introduce the local grassroots leaders who make a difference on the ground. We believe that by supporting them we support the true potential for realistic Peace.
